Rugby King Henry VIII 1st XV v Bablake 1st XV
13/03/2017
For the first time since the King Henry VIII-Bablake First XV rugby match was moved to an evening fixture, King Henry VIII won successive matches, with a 13-0 victory on Monday 13th March. The game was fiercely-contested, Bablake edging the territory and winning good line-out ball, but unable to penetrate the King Henry’s defence. The only first half score was an expertly-taken drop goal by KHVIII fly-half Charlie Adams, to establish a 3-0 lead. In the second half KHVIII won more possession, and were able to threaten by moving the ball wide, although the only try was in fact a strong run by which prop Joe Read plunged over following a King Henry’s rolling maul. This was converted by Adams, who then added a penalty. A forward pass deprived winger Arjan Sidhu of a try after the best move of the match, while Bablake finished with considerable forward pressure, but could not cross the line.
